DIY projects: Seasonal paper stars

Spend a cosy afternoon crafting these budget-friendly decorations

YOU WILL NEED

  • Card or thick paper to make three templates: small: 18.5cm x 14.5cm, medium: 30cm x 14.5cm, large: 42cm x 14.5cm
  • 10 sheets of thin paper - recycle wrapping paper or magazines if you wish
  • Scissors and ruler
  • Glue stick and clear tape 
  • White thread or string

STEP 1

Make the card templates (right). Then trace the small and medium ones four times onto thin paper, and the large one six times.

STEP 2

Cut out the pieces of paper and fold each one accordion-style. Then fold again in the middle and round off the outer edges.

STEP 3

Glue the centre of each piece together, allow to dry. Then glue all the pieces of the same size together to form a star.

STEP 4

Place your three differently sized stars together and cut the white string to length, depending on the hanging height.

STEP 5

Prepare to thread the white string through the largest star first, leaving plenty of string on either side.

STEP 6

Stack the three stars, largest to smallest. Knot the string and thread it through the centre of the largest, securing with tape.

STEP 7

Thread the middle star and then the smallest. Cut the string to the desired length to hang, or use as a table decoration.
