A new online tool launched by Confused.com is set to support over three million Blue Badge holders across the UK find a Blue Badge parking space.
The free tool allows users to search for nearby Blue Badge bays in England, Scotland and Wales using either their current location or a manually entered postcode. Users can then see the locations marked on an online map. The tool is designed to be easy to use, whether planning ahead or searching on the go.
Blue Badges help people with disabilities or health conditions park closer to their destination. Spaces offer essential extra room for less mobile drivers and passengers to safely exit vehicles and accommodate wheelchairs or mobility scooters.
However, a recent survey by Confused.com highlights a serious shortfall: for every available Blue Badge parking space in the UK, there are 52 eligible users. This shortage has led 36% of Blue Badge holders to avoid visiting certain places altogether due to fears of not finding accessible parking.
By identifying where Blue Badge spaces are, the new parking space finder aims to promote fairer access and help disabled drivers plan their journeys.
