Navigating a hearing world can often mean dealing with slow, inflexible systems. But Convo, a D/deaf-led communication system, at Battersea Power Station, is changing that.

Convo provides real-time, on-demand British Sign Language (BSL) interpreting. Visitors can scan a QR code at Battersea Power Station's Guest Services desks to automatically connect with a BSL interpreter with no app or login required.

The service extends beyond the desks. Retailers across the site can contact Guest Services to request a tablet to assist D/deaf or hard-of-hearing guests in-store.

The system was born from founders who refused to accept the status quo: "We do not just design for the community; we design as the community," say the Convo team.

The response has been overwhelmingly positive. It is a powerful example of technology designed by those who actually use it, making connection instant and natural.
