Horse riding has boosted the mobility and mental wellbeing of 15-year-old wheelchair user William.

William, who attends an accessible horse riding facility, Scropton Riding for the Disabled (RDA) in Derby, told the BBC that horse riding is "great physio" for him, and had also cheered him up after he needed to take a break following major surgery. "I felt very down, but being back here again, it's really lifted my spirits. I feel very independent."

Scropton RDA, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in November with a fundraising campaign, offers horse riding for all abilities, as well as horse agility and horse care lessons. The Motability Scheme is the service that keeps disabled people moving. It’s delivered by Motability Operations and overseen by the Motability Foundation, which helps disabled people make the journeys they choose.
