Marks & Spencer has become the first UK high street retailer to make stoma underwear for men, following the success of its stoma knickers launch last year.
The stoma trunks are designed with an internal pocket to hold a stoma bag in place. They also have a higher waistline and are made from cotton-rich fabric with added stretch. The trunks come in a pack of three, priced at £18 and VAT exempt, and are available online at marksandspencer.com.
The trunks came to be after M&S colleagues and customers gave feedback on the stoma knickers, saying that they were a great idea and a similar product should be created for men with stomas who need accessible underwear.
"Following the incredible response to our stoma knickers, we knew there was a real need to expand the offer," says Mitch Hughes, head of menswear at M&S. "The launch of stoma trunks means we can now provide the same comfort and support for men living with a stoma. This is about listening to our customers and colleagues, and ensuring everyone can find clothing that makes them feel confident."
M&S partnered with keynote speaker and product designer Mesha Moinirad for the launch. Mesha had a stoma bag fitted in 2013 after having inflammatory bowel disorder for several years.
