It's snow time! The 2026 Winter Paralympic Games is coming up fast and this year marks the 50th anniversary of the first Winter Paralympics. This March, around 600 athletes will make their way to Milano Cortina, Italy, to compete in 79 events, hoping to bring home the gold medal for their countries.
The Arena di Verona will host the opening ceremony on 6 March, and the spectacular closing ceremony will take place on 15 March in the Cortina Curling Stadium. Fun fact the stadium was featured in the 1981 James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.
Athletes will be competing across six sports - Para alpine skiing, Para biathlon, Para cross-country skiing, Para ice hockey, Para snowboard and wheelchair curling.
For the 2026 Games, a brand new event will be introduced: wheelchair curling mixed doubles. If you're unfamiliar with wheelchair curling, the aim of this exciting game is to deliver a granite stone weighing up to 20kg as close as possible to a target known as the house. The sport has been nicknamed 'the roaring game' because of the sound the stone produces over the ice.
At the end of last year, Adidas revealed its ParalympicsGB kits (pictured left). Phil Smith, head of sport at ParalympicsGB, said the fabrics and design placement supports ParalympicsGB's "commitment to accessibility".
Best of luck to the team!
