Innovative AI-powered mobility aid

Glide is the world’s first autonomous, self-guided mobility aid designed for people who are blind or have low vision.

The device, which is still at prototype stage, is powered by AI and helps people navigate around obstacles and hazards and locate doors, lifts and stairs. It can also describe your surroundings.

Motability Scheme Ambassador Lucy Edwards, who is blind, tells Lifestyle: “Glide was amazing. I tried it at Euston Station in London and, although it’s only in the prototype stage, I can really see its potential. I was shocked at how well it navigated around obstacles and people in a busy environment. I will definitely be using it in future.

“There’s been a gap that robotics can fill within the blind community and it’s so exciting that, one day soon, Glide will be able to take us anywhere.”
