Hair & Care offers workshops for blind and low-vision women

Hair & Care is challenging the narrative that beauty and fashion is just for the sighted. Recognising that the hair and beauty industry has historically excluded blind and low-vision people, Hair & Care organises programmes designed to make the industry more accessible.

It holds webinars and monthly hair and self-care workshops for blind and low-vision women and girls (aged 12+) at Hackney Depot, East London, with top hairstylists, creating a supportive environment to build self-esteem and increase confidence.

Founder Anna Cofone, who grew up with a blind father, emphasises that the programme is about disrupting stereotypes. "Self-care is a powerful tool for empowerment, and everyone deserves to feel confident and seen," she says.

Alongside workshops, Hair & Care's initiative, Making Fashion Accessible, aims to enhance the fashion show experience for blind and low-vision people by offering guests fabric swatches of designers' collections with descriptions of each material, plus audio and tactile tours.
