Seat transfers: Getting seated sorted

For anyone with limited mobility, even the simplest car journey starts with one important question: how do I get into the seat comfortably and safely? Thankfully, smart innovations from Elap and Guidosimplex are making that process smoother and smarter

They take two different approaches to in-car access, but share a common goal: removing the barriers to everyday travel. And both are available through the Managed Adaptations Programme. Let's take a closer look at what makes each one unique.

E-Motion X

Elap's E-Motion X is a powered swivel seat. It's designed to meet you where you are, literally. At the touch of a button, the seat rotates, slides out of the vehicle and gently lowers to your level. Once seated, it lifts and rotates you smoothly back into position. It's stylish, compact and integrates into most vehicle interiors, offering practical support without looking clinical. This system is ideal for drivers and passengers who use wheelchairs or walking aids, or who need an easier, safer way to get seated.

G-TRAN

Guidosimplex's G-TRAN brings another clever approach - it's a powered seat transfer system that works both inside and outside the car. The G-TRAN seat frame locks into a custom vehicle base for driving, but can also detach and wheel out using a compact undercarriage. You, or a carer, can move the seat directly to the user, secure them safely and transfer them into the vehicle without lifting or repositioning them. Once inside, the G-TRAN locks securely into place, ready for you to travel. This system is perfect for those who struggle with traditional side transfers, offering a low-effort alternative.

Managed Adaptations Programme

Both of these products, and others like them, are available nationwide through the Managed Adaptations Programme, meaning:

  • You get help choosing the right fit.
  • Trained installers will do the hard work to get you set up.
  • Competitive pricing is all part of the deal.

You can find out more about our adaptions by visiting the Motability Scheme website.

The Motability Scheme is the service that keeps disabled people moving. It’s delivered by Motability Operations and overseen by the Motability Foundation, which helps disabled people make the journeys they choose.
