Neal Forster started his art business later in life. He was a constable for the Derbyshire Police until he was medically retired following an injury. "I'm mostly self-taught from classes and online," he says.
He launched Art by Neal Forster after showing a portrait of his son's chocolate labrador to a friend at a coffee morning. "A friend of the friend then saw it and commissioned me to do a portrait of her dog. It was a fantastic feeling to have someone outside my family appreciate my artwork and pay me for painting their pet. The woman was so pleased with the result, she commissioned portraits of her grown-up children's two dogs," he explains.
"I also enjoy painting landscapes and abstract pieces."
Despite constant nerve pain, Neal paints in a studio in his garden, where he says he finds solace. "Art therapy is more than just a term - it's a reality for me. I am dedicated to promoting mental health awareness by showcasing the role of art in personal healing and growth." Commission Neal at artbynealforster.com, or email him at neal@artbynealforster.com.
